Abstract

In this research work, the adsorption capacity of p-xylene on a series of seven combinations of aluminum, cerium and zirconium oxides is studied by gas chromatography in a temperature range of 200 ° C to 240 ° C. The oxides studied were obtained by the sol-gel synthesis method. The surface area is high for the four samples containing alumina, between 196 and 272 m2 / g, while the remaining three have surface areas less than 40 m2 / g. The shape of the N2 adsorption isotherms correspond to mesoporous type materials for the samples containing alumina. The adsorption of p-xylene was observed in the seven samples, all the isotherms have a concave shape indicating favorable adsorption. However, the amount of p-xylene adsorbed is higher for the samples containing alumina. The temperature that favors adsorption in all samples is 200 °C.
