Abstract

A critical review of the conference given by C. P. Snow in May 1959 at the University of Cambridge from the perspective of the Cuban storyteller, Dr. C. Jorge Nuñez Jover in his article "Back to the Two Cultures" opens the way for a renewed look at the discussion of anthropology as a science or art from the perspective of the anthropologist. Science and art take on a dimension with the study of otherness in which the researcher interacts with a moving and complex reality, forcing him to dilute himself within the ambiguous border between science and art and art and science when constructing and reconstructing the theory and method of his science. The three phases in which the Brazilian anthropologist Roberto Cardoso de Oliveira synthesizes this profession allow us, through this review, to establish that the profession of the anthropologist harmoniously integrates rational, systematic, exact and verifiable knowledge on the one hand during the investigation and solution of social problems, and on the other hand, experience, imagination, vision, skill and values ​​during its academic and practical exercise.
