Organizational culture and criteria for success in the hotel sector of Los Mochis, Sinaloa

Abstract

In the dynamic hospitality industry, organizational culture plays an important role in determining business success. This research examines how shared values, norms and practices within a hotel directly influence its ability to achieve and maintain success. Various aspects of organizational culture are analyzed, such as team cohesion, adaptability to market changes and customer orientation, which are fundamental for guest satisfaction and loyalty. Success criteria in this context highlight the importance of effective human resource management and the ability to deliver memorable experiences. Additionally, strategies are investigated to foster an organizational culture that supports these criteria, such as leadership and promoting diversity and inclusion in the word environment. The practical implications derived from these findings for managers and leaders in the hospitalily sector, offering recommendations to strengthen organizational culture as a key strategic asset. This multi-case research aims to analyze two hotel companies in the city of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, in relation to the type of organizational culture in the success criteria within the sector, the OCAI instrument was used. The results indicate that the predominant culture in both hotels is “merket and clan” type, while the success criteria integrate elements of “clan and hierarchical” cultures. In conclusion, the study highlights that success in the hospitality sector is closely related to the ability of organizations to develop and maintain an organizational culture that is aligned with their strategic objectives.
