Integrated Waste Management Plan (IGMP) and its contribution to Sustainable Development Goal Number 12 of the 2030 Agenda

Abstract

According to the need to contribute from the tourism sector to good actions for the climate and to go with international environmental policies attached to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, the Hotel Meliá Puerto Vallarta has adopted for its contribution, the SDG 12: Responsible Production and Consumption, for its contribution through a Comprehensive Waste Management Plan within its facilities, which involves all its collaborators. From the environmental and public health point of view, the proper management of waste in the stages that follow its generation, allows mitigating the negative impacts on the environment and health and reducing the negative impact on natural resources. The reuse and recycling of materials are essential to reduce the pressure on ecosystems and other sources of resources from which they are extracted. At the same time, the consumption necessary for the extraction and processing of water use is reduced, through the use of energy. In addition, adequate physical spaces were created to finally dispose of the waste. The methodology used in this research was based on the considerations of the mixed approach and the descriptive scope. As a result of the study, the implementation of a Comprehensive Waste Management Plan has been considered essential, practical procedures were designed and the placement of complete recycling stations was implemented in consumption centers, public areas, maintenance, security, housekeeping, administration. With this research, a contribution is made to the 2030 Agenda from research applied to organizations in the tourism sector.
