Abstract

Tourism is increasingly present in rural areas and although many tourism projects are improvised and insufficiently organized actions, there are cases where it has been established with some success. To this end, the self-management that rural communities have developed collectively around natural resources can be a key factor. This article proposes a methodological framework based on the approach of common goods and socio-ecological systems that facilitates the study of the factors that determine why certain communities manage to collectively self-manage their natural resources in tourism activity, while others fail or stagnate.
