Abstract

In the university context, tutoring is seen as a strategy to improve the quality of higher education, which is why the Universidad de Occidente has incorporated this program into its educational model. Based on the above, it is interesting to carry out an analysis and proposal for improvement of the Institutional Tutoring Program (PIT) of the U de O, El Fuerte unit. The objective of this research was to carry out an analysis of the Institutional Tutoring Program of the Universidad de Occidente, El Fuerte unit and propose suggestions for improvement. The deductive-inductive method was used, non-probabilistic sampling, with a representative sample of 10% of the universe, the techniques applied were the questionnaire and the interview. The sources consulted were; personal, institutional, electronic and documentary sources. Among the outstanding results, it is worth mentioning that it is essential for HEIs to implement tutoring systems, thanks to which students have the advice and support of a properly trained teacher throughout their entire education. The way in which they are implemented is the responsibility of each institution. At the El Fuerte Unit, it is necessary to train the tutoring team on a quarterly basis, to have comfortable spaces for the tutoring process, for the administrative authorities to require compliance with the profile because this allows the tutor to have better control and management of the problems of their tutees, and for the program to have strategies for rescuing students who, for various reasons, leave the University classrooms. This program is a tool to comply with the Tutoring System, thereby obtaining an increase in the terminal efficiency indexes and thus complying with the graduation profile. Therefore, tutors need to critically reflect on our personal and professional performance when interacting with those under tutelage, to promote change and the process of human potential development.
