Abstract

In this research work, the adsorption capacity of toluene on a series of seven combinations of aluminum, cerium and zirconium oxides prepared by the sol-gel method using gas chromatography in a temperature range of 200 ° C to 250 ° C is studied. The surface area is high for the four samples containing alumina, between 196 and 272 m2 / g, while the remaining three have surface areas less than 40 m2 / g. Toluene adsorption was observed in all seven samples, however, the four containing alumina present concave isotherms indicating favorable adsorption, while in the ceria-zirconia samples, the shape of the isotherms is convex indicating unfavorable adsorption, this is confirmed by observing a lower amount of adsorbed toluene compared to the previous samples. The temperature that favors adsorption in most of the samples is 200 ° C.
