Abstract

A greenhouse experiment was established during three periods of the year to determine the effect of the time of application of IBA on rooting, characteristics of the roots formed, as well as the subsequent growth of the rooted plants of Ficus benjamina L. High percentages of rooting were obtained in the three periods for all treatments, including the control. However, slightly higher values for all variables were obtained during the spring season. The treatment with 1,500 ppm of IBA produced the highest percentage of rooting and the largest volume of roots formed. The dose of 10,000 ppm of IBA, like the control, was slightly inhibitory for the variables studied. After 50 days, the treatments of 1,500 and 3,000 ppm of IBA favored growth in height and number of leaves formed. There are no differences in the contents of total soluble sugars in the three periods of the year.
