Abstract

Intercultural communication is interpersonal communication involving people with cultural references that are sufficiently different to constitute a significant barrier that alters communicative effectiveness. An analysis of non-verbal communication is proposed, highlighting the importance of non-verbal aspects in communication, as well as the different contributions of studies carried out on kinesics, prosemics, and some senses such as touch and smell, which are highly influenced by the cultural references of each person. These studies reveal some potential basic differences in an intercultural communicative encounter.
