Abstract

The results of the research on pre- and post-gestational obesity in pregnant women in relation to their attendance or non-attendance at nutritional check-ups at the Gynecological-Pediatric Hospital of Los Mochis, during the first half of 2017, are presented. Using a comparative method and statistical hypothesis testing techniques, especially analysis of variance and t-tests, it was found that there is a significant difference between mothers who go to nutritional consultations and those who do not. Those who did not attend had an average difference in BMI of

4.9 kg/m2, while those who did had a difference of 3.1 kg/m2. This does not mean that all those who went to nutritional consultations managed to control their weight and vice versa, not all mothers who did not go ended up with greater obesity. It was also not possible to clearly observe whether the mothers who went to consultations changed their level of obesity pre and postpartum.

It was also found that there is no significant difference between urban mothers and those living in rural areas, nor between those who are housewives and those who work, but there are differences in the results between mothers with a high school or college education and those who do not have higher education than secondary school.
